The award winning play And Then They Came For Me is returning to Jersey War Tunnels having been sold out every night when it was performed last year. The multi-media play is based on the lives of Eva Schloss and Ed Silverberg, two Jewish teenagers who survived the Holocaust and their friend, the diarist Anne Frank, who perished. They grew up in Amsterdam and the play focuses on their lives during the war and how they coped with severe restrictions, moved into hiding and, lastly, were sent to concentration camps. The story is skilfully told using dramatic scenes from Ed and Eva’s personal accounts using videotape, which is narrated by the two survivors.
The play will again be directed by Jersey born actress Joanna Woodbridge, who was a cast member during its National Tour. Most of last year’s cast will also return, with two new young actors having been cast for the parts of Eva Schloss and Ed’s mother, Mrs Silverberg.
Francesca Duncan, 15, will perform the role of Eva. Miss Duncan is a Drama and History GCSE student at Jersey College for Girls. Francine Jordan-Higgins, 15, will play Mrs Silverberg. The Beaulieu student also studies History and Drama at GCSE level.
Robert De La Cour, Operations Manager, Jersey War Tunnels, commented:
“This play has been described as part oral history, part drama, part direct address and part remembrance; it is though wholly memorable, particularly when performed in the tunnel space. I’m delighted that we’ve secured the play for another year for the sake of all those islanders and visitors who missed it in 2005.”
The play will be performed from 17th - 22nd April at Jersey War Tunnels starting at 7.00 pm. Tickets cost £6 And can be purchased from Jersey War Tunnels, Jersey Tourism and The Red Triangle Stores.
