03- May -2007 Jersey War Tunnels toasts Liberation in traditional surroundings
Liberation Day will begin again this year with a toast at 07:14 by guests at Jersey War Tunnels.

Jersey’s liberation from German Occupation was officially announced at 07:14 on May 9 1945. For the past three years Jersey War Tunnels has celebrated this special event with a champagne breakfast for 200 islanders and visiting dignitaries.

This year the event promises to be particularly special as it will be staged in the 1940’s café, named ‘We’ll Eat Again’, which Jersey War Tunnels has created for the Liberation Festival.

Guests will mount the stairs (or exit the lift) to be greeted by an area bedecked by blackout curtains and memorabilia, with staff also wearing period costumes. During breakfast, 1940s footage will be shown in the background. Other entertainment will be in the form of a show with wartime songs and dancing, which has been produced by Tessa Coleman.

Chief Executive of Jersey War Tunnels, Paul Simmonds, commented:

“Our champagne breakfast has quickly become a popular part of the calendar for many involved in our island’s Liberation Day. I hope that the Liberation Festival continues to gain momentum and becomes part of our island’s unique events programme in order to inform both younger islanders and visitors of this very special time in our history.”
