17- Oct -2007 Jersey students bring history to life
A talented group of drama students from Beaulieu Convent School will be performing at Jersey War Tunnels on Thursday 18th October.

The one-off performance put together by the students, draws inspiration from the true stories told within the War Tunnels. The students have spent considerable time researching throughout the historical site, learning about the Occupation and thinking about how to present the subject in an informative and sensitive manner.

They have been working on the piece since June with their teacher, Tania Bloor, and have involved students from year 12 in their ambitious project. The performance and feedback will count towards their final A-Level grade.

Head of Drama at Beaulieu, Tania Bloor, said:

“This is an important project for our year 13 students. The task was to produce a piece of theatre for the community that would be performed outside school. Jersey War Tunnels is a brilliant site and it’s great for the students because most of them haven’t been there since they were children. It’s been such a rich subject area for them to work with and they’ve really risen to the challenge.”

Their performance will begin at the entrance to Jersey War Tunnels at 11am on Thursday. The piece takes the form of a fragmented musical; a performance which is split into episodes that are complete pieces of theatre in their own right. Each episode will be performed in different parts of the site and chronologically deal with the events of the Occupation. The students have combined music, acting and dance to create an unforgettable experience for both tourists and locals alike.

Jersey War Tunnels, Chief Executive, Paul Simmonds, commented:

“This medium is an excellent opportunity for both students and our visiting public to gain a greater understanding of the personal accounts and experiences during this dark period in our history.”

There is no extra cost to view the student’s work, this will be included within the usual admission charges.
